Holiday History Hi-Jinks: Lyrics

Lyrics to the carols used for Holiday History Hi-Jinks 2023

Here We Come A-Wassailing

Here we come a-wassailing among the leaves so green,

Here we come a-wandering, so fair to be seen.

Love and joy come to you,

And to you your wassail, too,

And God bless you, and send you A Happy New Year,

And God send you a Happy New Year.

We are not daily beggars that beg from door to door,

We are your neighbors' children whom you have seen before

Love and joy come to you,

And to you your wassail, too,

And God bless you, and send you A Happy New Year,

And God send you a Happy New Year.

Call up the butler of this house, put on his golden ring.

Let him bring out a glass of beer, and better shall we sing.

Love and joy come to you,

And to you your wassail, too,

And God bless you, and send you A Happy New Year,

And God send you a Happy New Year.

Fairhaven Hotel wait staff ca 1890. Note the halls decked with boughs of… well, not holly but some local greenery no doubt.

Deck the Halls

Deck the hall with boughs of holly, Fa-la-la-la-la la la la la

'Tis the season to be jolly, Fa-la-la-la-la la la la la

Fill the meadcup, drain the barrel, Fa-la-la la-la-la la la la!

Troul the ancient Yuletide carol, Fa-la-la-la-la la la la la

See the flowing bowl before us, Fa-la-la-la-la la la la la

Strike the harp and join the chorus. Fa-la-la-la-la la la la la

Follow me in merry measure, Fa-la-la la-la-la la la la!

While I sing of beauty's treasure, Fa-la-la-la-la la la la la

Fast away the old year passes, Fa-la-la-la-la la la la la

Hail the new, ye lads and lasses! Fa-la-la-la-la la la la la

Laughing, quaffing all together, Fa-la-la la-la-la la la la!

Heedless of the wind and weather, Fa-la-la-la-la la la la la!

Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town

I just came back from a lovely trip along the Milky Way

I stopped off at the North Pole to spend a holiday

I called on dear old Santa Claus to see what I could see

He took me to his workshop and told his plans to me,

SO…

You better watch out, You better not cry

Better not pout, I'm telling you why

Santa Claus is comin' to town

He's making a list, checking it twice;

He's gonna find out who's naughty and nice

Santa Claus is comin' to town

He sees you when you're sleeping He knows when you're awake

He knows if you've been good or bad, So be good for goodness sake!

Oh, you better watch out, You better not cry

Better not pout, I'm telling you why Santa Claus is comin' to town

(Long interlude)

You better watch out, You better not cry

Better not pout, I'm telling you why

Santa Claus is comin' to town

He's making a list, checking it twice;

He's gonna find out who's naughty and nice

Santa Claus is comin' to town!

I Saw Three Ships

I saw three ships come sailing in on Christmas Day, on Christmas Day

I saw three ships come sailing in on Christmas Day in the morning

And what was in those ships all three, on Christmas Day, on Christmas Day

And what was in those ships all three on Christmas Day in the morning

‘Twas Joseph and his lady fair, on Christmas Day, on Christmas Day

‘Twas Joseph and his lady fair, on Christmas Day in the morning

(Here’s your chance to really play those bells…)

And whither sailed those ships all three, on Christmas Day in the morning?

Oh they sailed in to BELLINGHAM, on Christmas Day, on Christmas Day

Oh they sailed in to BELLINGHAM on Christmas Day in the Morning!

(Bells!)

And all the bells on earth shall ring on Christmas Day, on Christmas Day

And all the bells on earth shall ring on Christmas Day in the morning

I saw three ships come sailing in on Christmas Day, on Christmas Day

I saw three ships come sailing in on Christmas Day in the morning

(Rock out with your bells out!)

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen

Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen

But do you recall.... the most famous reindeer of all?

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer had a very shiny nose

And if you ever saw it, you would even say it glows

All of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names

They never let poor Rudolph join in any reindeer games

Then one foggy Christmas Eve, Santa came to say

"Rudolph, with your nose so bright, won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"

Then how the reindeer loved him as they shouted out with glee

"Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, you'll go down in history“

THE END

We wish you a Merry Christmas

We wish you a Merry Christmas

We wish you a Merry Christmas

We wish you a Merry Christmas

and a Happy New Year!

We wish you a Merry Christmas

We wish you a Merry Christmas

We wish you a Merry Christmas

and a Happy New Year!

Good tidings we bring, to you and your kin

Good Tidings for Christmas and a Happy New Year

Oh, bring us a figgy pudding

Oh, bring us a figgy pudding

Oh, bring us a figgy pudding

and a cup of good cheer.

We won’t go until we get some,

We won’t go until we get some,

We won’t go until we get some,

so bring it right here.

Good tidings we bring, to you and your kin

Good Tidings for Christmas and a

Happy New Year

We wish you a Merry Christmas

We wish you a Merry Christmas

We wish you a Merry Christmas

and a Happy New Year!

We wish you a Merry Christmas

We wish you a Merry Christmas

We wish you a Merry Christmas

and a Happy New Year!

Bellingham’s “Grand Central” Hotel was built in 1891 at the corner of Forrest and Holly Streets (site of the Co-op).  It later became the “Baker Hotel” and was torn down in 1920.

It's Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, everywhere you go

Take a look in the five and ten  glistening once again

With candy canes and silver lanes aglow

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, toys in every store

But the prettiest sight to see is the holly that will be on your own front door

A pair of hop-along boots and a pistol that shoots is the wish of Barney and Ben

Dolls that will talk and will go for a walk is the hope for Janice and Jen

And Mom and Dad can hardly wait for school to start again

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas everywhere you go

There's a tree in the Grand Hotel,  one in the park as well

The sturdy kind that doesn't mind the snow

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, soon the bells will start

And the thing that will make them ring is the carol that you sing

Right within your heart

A pair of hop-along boots and a pistol that shoots is the wish of Janice and Jen

Dolls that will talk and will go for a walk is the hope of Barney and Ben

And Mom and Dad can hardly wait for school to start again

(maniacal laughter)

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, soon the bells will start

And the thing that will make them ring is the carol that you sing

Right within your heart

Rockin Around the Christmas Tree

Rockin' around the Christmas tree at the Christmas party hop

Mistletoe hung where you can see, every couple tries to stop

Rockin' around the Christmas tree, let the Christmas spirit ring

Later we'll have some pumpkin pie and we'll do some caroling

You will get a sentimental feeling when you hear voices singing,

let's be jolly, deck the halls with boughs of holly

Rockin' around the Christmas tree, have a happy holiday

Everyone dancin' merrily in the new old-fashioned way

You will get a sentimental feeling when you hear voices singing,

let's be jolly, deck the halls with boughs of holly

Rockin' around the Christmas tree, have a happy holiday

Everyone dancin' merrily in the new old-fashioned way!!!

O LITTLE TOWN OF BELLINGHAM

O little town of Bellingham, how still we see thee lie

Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by.

Yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting light

The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight.

O little town of Bellingham, the place we work and play

‘Twas born of sin and bathtub gin, this hamlet on the bay

We hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell

O come to us, abide with us, in Bellingham we dwell.
